Data, numbers and decisions
For years, data was considered the preserve of large companies. Today, even a small venue can collect useful information:

- which processes cause delays.
The challenge extends beyond collecting data to turning it into decisions.
A chart full of numbers has little value unless it leads to a useful action. A good system should help highlight unusual patterns, opportunities and trends, while leaving people in charge of deciding what to do.
Why context matters
One of modern technology's most overlooked qualities is its ability to make information relevant to the situation.

Good design helps people understand, reduces errors and makes learning easier.
A poorly designed interface makes people stop repeatedly to work out what to do. A well-designed one makes the next step feel natural.
Many technologies we now take for granted became useful through improvements in how people interact with them, alongside technical progress.
The age of artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence is a significant part of this change. Public discussion often focuses on its most visible uses: chatbots, generated images, synthetic video and virtual assistants.
Some of its most useful applications may be less noticeable.
Systems can help improve processes, suggest options, identify emerging problems and automate repetitive tasks, leaving more time for work that needs human judgment.
In many cases, the person using a product may not even notice that artificial intelligence is involved.
Trust as infrastructure
Every technological change depends on trust.
